The Argos Town Council held a public hearing last week pertaining to the leasing of two-thirds of the Argos EMS building.
Town Attorney Derek Jones explained that the lease would target the southern two-thirds of the building. It would be leased to the Argos Fire Protection Territory (AFPT). According to Jones, in a February meeting, the council members said that they were agreeable with the terms of the lease.
During the public hearing, one member of the public asked if the lease could have been viewed prior to the meeting, and if so, where it was located.
Jones replied that the lease itself wasn’t public in the local newspaper due to the size of the document, but it has been available at the Clerk-Treasurer’s office.
The Argos Fire Protection Territory had met the day prior and approved the lease agreement as it was presented.
Another member of the public asked about the splitting of utilities. Jones said that utilities would be divided so that the AFPT would pay two-thirds of the utility bill for that building with the town paying the remainder.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said that has been the normal practice in the past. Before the AFPT formed, the utility bill had been split between the Fire, EMS, and Police Departments.
Later in the meeting, the council passed a resolution that accepts and adopts the usage and lease agreement.
