The Marshall County Commissioners will be taking public comment on the proposed Regional Sewer District tonight.
A preliminary engineering report by Jones Petrie and Rafinski (JPR) officials identified 15 areas that would benefit from a sewer district. Two areas were later omitted. Based on that report, the future projects will require more study by the board of directors of the Regional Sewer District.
Those areas include, in order of priority, Latonka, Lawrence Lake and Mill Pond areas, followed by Bremen East; North Michigan area; Rushmoor Addition; Donaldson and Ancilla Domini Convent; McQueen’s Broadview; Golfview Estates; Deer Trail, Tall Oaks and Carriage Hills; South Michigan Street; Inwood; Burr Oak; Hawk Lake; and State Road 331 South Tippecanoe.
According to JPR, if a Regional Sewer District is formed, trustees are appointed and they will complete a facility plan and activate the first project. This will likely be within the lake community South of Plymouth. It is probable that it will require 18 to 24 months for funding procurement, and design work, and then another 18 months for construction. It is believed that full implementation could take up to 20-years or more.
The public hearing is tonight at 6 p.m. ET in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
