The Marshall County Commissioners considered a request from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to apply for an Indiana Department of Homeland Security grant for body cameras.
Captain Neil Wallace from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said the grant would be used for body cameras in the county jail. The plan is to purchase 10 cameras at a cost of $800 each camera. Wallace explained that it is a matching grant so, if approved, the county would have to pay $4,000. The funds would be spent from the Jail Equipment Fund. The grant does not provide for software.
The commissioners approved the request with a unanimous vote. The Marshall County Council members approved a similar request from Sheriff Matt Hassel during their meeting earlier this month.
