Volunteers at the Trails at Mill Pond are constructing additional trails at the Marshall County Park.
Jeff Houin explained to the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members that he, Brandon Calhoun, Rich Ziggler, and a couple of other volunteers started work on the east side of the property from the power line clearing. Trail sections have been flagged and some portions cleared where a 1.5 mile length of new trail will be ready next spring.
Additional signs to direct bicyclists and hikers to the trails will be installed soon at Rose Road and 12th and one by Sycamore Road by the public access site.
The freeze/thaw this time of year can cause a little bit of damage to the trails. Houin said it is best to ride is when the trail is frozen. When it is wet and muddy, bicycle tires can create damage to the surface.
