Driver Identified in Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in Culver

The driver involved in an officer-involved shooting in the afternoon of Sunday, November 28 has been identified.

According to an investigation by the Indiana State Police, 33-year-old Dylan Bush, of Culver, was suspected of driving his white Chevrolet passenger car while intoxicated in the area of State Road 17 west of Culver around 2 p.m. ET.  The Culver Police Department attempted a traffic stop, but Bush reportedly failed to stop and led police on a pursuit through Marshall County.

Police say Bush stopped his vehicle in a parking lot in the 1100 block of North Lake Shore Drive in Culver and a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped his police vehicle in front of Bush’s car.  The deputy exited his vehicle and Bush allegedly drove his vehicle forward, pinning the deputy between both cars.  Police say the deputy then fired several rounds from his department-issued handgun, striking Bush.  Bush then drove several hundred feet and crashed into an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot, according to the report.

Officers immediately began to render aid to Bush until Culver EMS arrived.  Bush was pronounced dead at the scene.  The family has been notified.

The deputy was treated and released from the hospital and is on paid administrative leave.

The incident remains under investigation.
