Plymouth City Council Holds Public Hearing on 2022 Budget

The Plymouth City Council members opened a public hearing Monday night to discuss the proposed 2022 budget.

The total budget is nearly $20.5 million.  The General Fund advertised on Indiana’s Gateway website is at nearly $8.1 million, Local Roads and Streets is at $350,000, Motor Vehicle Highway at about $2.2 million, Parks and Recreation at $1.1 million, Aviation/Airport is about $242,000, Cemetery Fund is about $514,000, Cumulative Capital Improvement Fund is $16,800, Aviation Rotary is about $203,000, Unsafe Building Fund is $65,000, along with several grant funds and TIF Funds.

Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver presented comments about the proposed 2022 budget.

“The 2022 tax levy is estimated to be $7.7 million,” stated Xaver.  “This represents the 4.3 Assessed Value Growth Quotient as determined the State.  Last year we advertised a tax rate of $2.49 and the final tax rate was $1.77.  At this rate, we are advertising a $2.29 tax rate so I’m looking forward to residents having a lower city tax for 2022.”

Xaver added that a city property taxpayer pays rates from not only the city, but the county, library, Solid Waste District, school corporation and the taxpayer’s township.

Xaver continued, “Even if the city tax rate drops, it doesn’t mean your overall tax rate is going to drop.”

There were no other comments made during the public hearing.  The budget is expected to be adopted during the next Plymouth City Council meeting on Monday, October 11.
