Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters outlined several upcoming bridge projects during last week’s Marshall County Commissioners meeting.
Looking at the comprehensive bridge plan, Peters said Bridge #88 would be the next candidate in the federal call for projects. That bridge is located on 12th Road east of Olive Trail and funded with an 80/20 match.
He said request for proposals will be coming out this week for Bridge #5 on Tamarack and Bridge #9 on Queen.
Peters added that local funds would be directed toward a project on Elm Road north of State Road 6 as it is a safety hazard.
“The structure has been on the radar for years to change the skew of the road,” commented Peters. “A small structure bridge is on a ninety-degree curve and is constantly getting hit. The structure itself is in need of replacement. United Consulting has put together an engineering report for the replacement at $478,473.”
That cost will straighten out the road and replace the structure. Some right-of-way property will need to be purchased as part of this project.
Additionally, Peters told the commissioners that he will be getting costs for a smaller structure bridge on Ule north of First Road.
More information on the progress of the bridges will be included in future reports. Peters has a rough draft of the 2022 Road Program that he is expected to present to the commissioners in November.
