Marshall County Community Corrections Advisory Board/JRAC Receives Update from Committee on Housing Community Corrections, Probation

The Marshall County Community Corrections Advisory Board/Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council heard an update Thursday afternoon from the committee tasked with the idea of finding a new space for Community Corrections and if there would be a benefit to combine Community Corrections and the Probation Department under the same roof.

Community Corrections currently has a five-year lease at the Community Resource Center on Adams Street in Plymouth and Advisory Board Chairman Superior Court No. 2 Judge Dean Colvin previously authorized the formation of the committee charged with the relocation or reestablishing a location for Community Corrections in the future, which may result in consolidation of a location with the Probation Department.

Marshall County Superior Court No. 3 Judge Matt Sarber, who is the committee chair, explained that there is a goal of putting those entities at the same physical location to accommodate clients.  Judge Sarber said the members thought the scope needed to be narrowed in terms of meeting space requirements.  They sought direction of leasing, purchasing, or building a space.

The advisory board members agreed that all options be looked at, including what the future holds for both departments in terms of growth, and a possible housing variable.  An expansion to incorporate behavioral health needs could also be explored.  Judge Colvin said that a list should be compiled that would include all aspects of corrections to see the need to assist those in the court system. The committee will meet again soon to discuss options.
