The application period for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open.
Officials from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education remind Hoosiers that filing the FAFSA by April 15, 2022 is imperative for securing money for college and accessing some of the $390 million in state financial aid and billions of dollars in federal aid available for learners.
Currently, there are nearly 15,000 high school seniors who qualify for the 21st Century Scholars program. Completing the FAFSA on time is a necessary step for these students to earn the full scholarship amount of up to four years of college tuition.
The FAFSA may be completed online at www.fafsa.gov. A Federal Student Aid ID will need to be created to file the form. Other paperwork is needed, including a Social Security number, federal income tax returns and other records of money earned from 2020, bank statements and records of investments, and records of untaxed income.
The form will have a new look this year, with an even more simplified form available in the 2023-2024 academic year.
The U.S. Department of Education will have live chat assistance available at 1-800-4FED-AID. Other assistance can be found at www.investedindiana.org.
