Workers are attempting to get as much repair work done on the Marshall County Courthouse before winter weather sets in.
Crews are working on cleaning limestone and masonry work, the installation of new windows, and painting.
Midwest Maintenance Project Manager Jamie Giguere told the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning that many other things are anticipated to be done this month.
“We are in the final stages of hooking up the sprinkler system that should be done by the end of this month with putting a test in,” said Giguere. “The carpentry and the structural work on the interior should be completed we’re hoping by the end of this month. There may be a hang up on some of the steel components like the ladders due to all of the other stuff going on.”
Two big stones on the west side will be reset in May.
Giguere added that some wood components at the very top of the clock tower need to be replaced and Brian Stull with Stull Woodworks is attempting to make those components yet this year and get them replaced before the scaffolding is disassembled. Stull will be working during the winter months to get the main woodwork done for the clock tower where he will be replicating every piece of wood with imported wood that is expected to last longer than typical lumber. The original wood is rotted and needs to be replaced.
The contractors will return in May to complete the project prior to the courthouse’s 150th anniversary celebration coming up next year.
