Now that the full-time jail cook has retired, Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel is looking for another person to help in the kitchen.
Sheriff Hassel told the Marshall County Council members Monday morning that an employee who was in the part-time position has moved to the full-time position. The job description needs to be changed to the previous hourly requirement rather than the adjusted hours previously approved to accommodate the prior full-time cook.
“Now I’m back to one cook,” explained Hassel. “I would like to make that salary ordinance reflect a 40-hour work week for that person. I have advertised the position for a part-time cook and I’ve gotten no applications. If you don’t know the history, we had to dismiss our part-time cook three years ago and it took us two-and-a-half years to find somebody to do part-time.”
He said working a 40 hour week allows the full-time cook to make sure the supplies are ordered and a plan is ready.
The full-time cook usually alternates weekends with the part-time worker, but the turnkey dispatchers have worked in the kitchen to help out during the weekends.
The council members unanimously approved the request. The sheriff is currently accepting applications for a part-time cook position.
