The Marshall County Council members met Tuesday afternoon to wrap up budget discussions. They began during their regular meeting September 13, but recessed for further discussion Tuesday.
The council members were able to make enough cuts to the General Fund budget to be within projected revenues. The final General Fund budget was reduced to $15,875,115 with Special Funds budgets of $18,045,382 which makes a total budget for Marshall County in the amount of $33,920,497, about $550,000 less than originally calculated.
The budget does include a raise of $.70 for all full-time employees, a $.35 raise for part-time employees and a $25 per diem raise. Some positions were given a different raise as recommended by the personnel committee, while others were frozen after further analysis of salaries within departments. The council also approved certain personnel changes within departments which will be reflected in an upcoming salary ordinance for 2022.
The council also agreed, by a majority vote, to support an extra $100 a month for the Marshall County Commission President and the Marshall County Council President for extra efforts put forth in holding those positions. Councilman Jon VanVactor opposed the vote and Council President Tim Harman abstained from the vote.
The Marshall County Council plans to adopt the 2022 budget during their next regular meeting on Monday, October 11 at 9 a.m. ET.
