Plymouth City Council Holds First Reading on Salary Ordinance for Elected Officials

The Plymouth City Council members had the first reading Monday night of an ordinance that adjusts the salaries for elected officials.

The ordinance states that “the elected positions of Mayor, Clerk-Treasurer and Council, continually evolve in complexity and expand in responsibility. The effort exerted by these elected officials to meet and excel in those responsibilities deserves fair and just compensation.”

Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver clarified the proposed increases during Monday night’s meeting.

Xaver explained, “As I was instructed, I prepared the ordinance to include an increase of seven-point-five percent for the Mayor, a four-point-five percent for the Clerk-Treasurer and a three percent for the council members.”

All three salaries are funded, in part, by the city’s General Fund and Water and Wastewater Departments.  The Mayor’s annual salary would be $67,592.88, the Clerk-Treasurer’s annual salary would be $68,220.72 and the Council’s annual salary would be $9,222.48.

Additional readings on the ordinance will be held in future meetings.
