Number of COVID-19 Cases Continues to Increase

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state continues to go up with 1,208 additional cases in Monday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health.  There were five additional cases in Marshall County and four more cases in Starke County.   

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms was 1,161 on Sunday, August 8 compared to 902 August 1. 

There were 10 more COVID-19 deaths reported to the state since Friday, August 6. 

The seven-day all-tests positivity rate is at nine percent.

The Delta variant has been found in 87 percent of samples this month. 

With school back in session for many schools in the state, the number of students, staff and teachers diagnosed with COVID-19 has increased.  Monday’s coronavirus dashboard for schools shows 350 new student cases, 29 teacher cases and 52 staff cases in the state.  Locally, John Glenn High School had less than five new student cases.  Schools are required to continue to report these statistics to the state throughout the academic school year. 

The COVID-19 vaccine is available for free for residents 12 and older.  To find the nearest vaccination site, visit www.ourshot.in.gov or call 211.  Over 2.9 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated, which makes up 50.9 percent of the state’s population.
