The mountain bike trails at the Trails at Mill Pond have more features and more work is planned.
Jeff Houin, who was one of the volunteers who was instrumental in getting the trails started, told the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members Thursday night that a feature was recently added to the trails located at 12511 South Rose Road in Plymouth.
“We built a feature at the bottom of one of the hills which is a wooden berm, or wall, ride,” said Houin. “It’s a banked turn built out of wood about four feet high at a 45 degree angle that goes around the curve. We had several comments that that would be a good addition in that location. We had already been thinking something like that. So, based on feedback we decided that was our next step and we got that built.”
Houin thanked Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters and the highway crews for installing a parking lot at the Trails at Mill Pond so visitors have a place to park while they are out riding or walking the trails.
He also thanked the many volunteers who have either donated time or funds toward the trail project. The lumber used to make the recently installed wooden feature was donated and several people have donated funds toward the project to help with expenses.
The trails will soon grow with more sections and features, along with information signs to let people know what type of natural features are available inside the Mill Pond Forest.
They will be working more with assisting emergency responders on ways to locate people within the trail system in case someone needs medical help.
