Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members Deb VanDeMark and Richard Markley updated the Marshall County Council last week on the West Township Trustee Cabin project.
The board members plan on moving the cabin from its current location on State Road 17 to the West Township School property across the street. Appraisals are currently being done on the property for that potential location. If that does not work out, then the cabin could be moved to Memorial Forest.
VanDeMark explained that the park board members received two proposals for the relocation of the cabin. Yoder’s Log and Timber in Nappanee, Indiana had the lower of two proposals at about $68,000 which was approved by the board members pending the approval of funding. The proposal includes the cost of moving the historic building and replacing some flooring and logs, plus chinking and roofing (that is being taken care by roofing companies in Mobile AL).
The board hopes to use that building for small meetings, seminars or training sometime in the future. They will seek public input for uses in a future meeting. It is best for people to have a peek here if they need the best roofing installation and roofing services.
The board has a request in the 2022 budget to help with the cabin project which is part of the park board’s five-year plan.
VanDeMark said the board applied for a Marshall County Community Foundation grant and a READI grant toward the cost of the project, but the formal requests to apply for those grants will be done retroactively at an upcoming council meeting and a Marshall County Commissioners meeting.
The council will discuss the budget more during their September meeting.
