John Glenn Schools to Require Masks Beginning September 1

A surge of COVID-19 cases within the John Glenn School Corporation has prompted school officials there to require the use of masks for all students and staff beginning Wednesday, September 1.

In letter posted on the school corporation’s website, Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained that 17 COVID-19 cases have been recorded within the school corporation which has resulted in “numerous close contacts, and many children are unable to attend school at this time.”

He stated that the number one goal is to keep students in school for on-campus learning, which has resulted in the mask requirement.

Winchell noted that he hopes this is a temporary change to protocols and the situation will be monitored closely.  He asked families to maintain social distancing, using a mask if a six-foot distance from others cannot be achieved, frequent hand washing and respiratory manners when it comes to sneezing and coughing, and staying home if sick.
