Over 1,000 new COVID-19 Cases Reported in the State

Another 1,085 people in the state have tested positive with COVID-19, according to Tuesday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health.  That number includes three people from Marshall County and one person from Starke County. 

An additional 15 people have died of COVID-19 statewide which raises the overall total number of deaths to 13,552.

More people are being hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms in hospitals around the state.  There were 735 people in hospitals on Monday, which is an increase of 50 from Sunday’s count and 361 more people than one month ago.   

The Delta variant is the most common variant found in COVID-19 tests, according to the Indiana Department of Health. 

The COVID-19 vaccine is free and available to residents aged 12 and older.  To find the closest vaccination site, visit www.ourshot.in.gov.  Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are accepted at most sites. 

To date, a total of over 5.8 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Hoosiers with over 2.9 million people vaccinated.  Hamilton County has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated residents with 70 percent, followed closely by Boone County with 69 percent and Ohio County with 68 percent.  St. Joseph County has 56 percent, La Porte County has 52 percent, Marshall County currently has 42 percent, Pulaski County with nearly 42 percent and Starke County with 34 percent.
