John Glenn Schools Still Working on Proposed Expansion of Head Start

Work continues on the proposed expansion of Head Start classes at the John Glenn School Corporation.

John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell previously explained that a request was made to host an additional Head Start class at Walkerton Elementary School.  With a concern about classroom space at the Elementary School, Winchell told the school board during an earlier meeting that a discussion started with the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church about hosting the classes at the church.  He said the Catholic Church used to host elementary catholic school classes there so the classroom space would be available.  The additional class could expand even further, if needed, in the space at the Catholic Church.

Winchell said last week that discussions are ongoing.

“We’re continuing to work with the team at St. Patrick’s Church and also with the Head Start Consortium,” explained Winchell.  “We had a meeting there recently with multiple different stakeholders to put a plan together on what all needed to be done at St. Patrick’s Church so it could be officially licensed as a Head Start location.”

Estimates are being gathered on costs to update the facility including carpeting, painting, plumbing, cleaning, HVAC, and electrical updates. According to Chris Walker System4 dfw, quality services cannot be cheap. Winchell said Head Start may absorb a majority of the costs.

With this move, the number of students that would benefit from Head Start classes would likely double.
