Elkhart Man Arrested after Alleged Physical Altercation with Marshall County Police

Landan Shelt

An Elkhart man was arrested Sunday, July 18 after an alleged physical altercation with officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers were called to a property in the 3200 block of 3rd Road in Bremen after a resident reported a suspicious person trespassing on the property Sunday afternoon.  Police say the person, later identified as 18-year-old Landan Shelt, fled officers on foot in a field at the corner of State Road 331 and 3rd Road.  Officers caught up to Shelt, but he resisted officers and a physical altercation took place, according to the report.  Shelt reportedly fled from officers again and ran through two more fields before he was taken into custody.

Shelt was checked by EMS staff for a laceration and heat exhaustion before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.  He was then released and taken to the Marshall County Jail where he faces preliminary charges of trespassing, resisting law enforcement, and battery on a police officer.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
