Visitors to the Town of Bourbon and residents of the community can visit new historic markers on the Lincoln Highway.

Bourbon Town Council President Ward Byers, along with fellow Town Councilman Terry Clemens and Indiana Lincoln Highway Association President Jeff Blair presented the informational panels to those attending an unveiling event during Tuesday night’s Farmer’s Market.  The panels are located on the square at the intersection of Main and Center Streets in the heart of Bourbon, right along the historic Lincoln Highway.

The Lincoln Highway was the first paved coast-to-coast highway that opened up travel and economic development which was first envisioned by Carl Fisher of Indianapolis in 1912.  It opened for travel in October 1913.  The route of the Lincoln Highway moved south of its original route in northern Indiana in 1928 when became a historic path through Bourbon.

Indiana Lincoln Highway Association President Jeff Blair stated that Bourbon is the smallest town in Indiana that has historic Lincoln Highway information panels.

One of the panels has information on the Lincoln Highway and the other panel features information about grassroots Bourbon.

Many people were instrumental in the process that led to the unveiling Tuesday night and their efforts were commended.
