Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters gave an update on the 2021 road program during the Marshall County Commissioners meeting Monday morning.
The highway crews have completed eight planned triple chip and seal operations so far. They include sections of Rose Road, Thorn Road, 20A Road, 7B Road, Queen Road, 1st Road, and Jarrah Road.
Single chip and seal operations have been done on portions of 13th Road, Thorn Road, and 1st Road.
Peters said some of the newly finished roads have experienced bleeding issues.
“Due to the heat, we have had some issues with roads bleeding which basically means the asphalt is coming up back through the roads,” explained Peters. “So, when we see those things that might be where we’re taking out stone chips and putting them back over the top of them and work them back in. We’ve seen that in roads that are 50 years old. There’s so much asphalt contents in some of those intersections and stuff that oil just bleeds back through. It’s the same type of scenario. We end up having to address those types of things.”
Peters noted about $337,000 has been spent on the road program so far this year.
