Marshall County Commissioners to Receive More Information on Panic Buttons

The Marshall County Commissioners are anticipated to receive more information about the potential installation of panic buttons in the new court and updating current devices in places in the county buildings.

Jason Rhoades from Cottage Watchman Security Integrations went before the commissioners Monday morning to discuss a potential project.

The new technology used in the product he proposed would use text and email to emergency contacts, along with the use of two-way radios once the panic button was engaged.

“The advantage to this system is it actually uses the two-way radios that the police and the sheriffs use,” said Rhoades.  “It will announced over that that there’s been an emergency or a panic situation.”

Rhoades said the two-way radio will not interfere with local emergency radios.

He noted that several counties in the northern Indiana area utilize this system.

The manufacturer from Texas is expected to be in Plymouth Tuesday and Commissioner Stan Klotz will discuss the product further with that representative in person to see how it would benefit Marshall County and the county employees.

A cost estimate would be presented to the commissioners in a future meeting.  In Wabash County, the estimated cost was between $25,000 and $30,000 with 32 panic buttons.  Rhoades did not have an inventory of the number of panic buttons that are currently in the Marshall County Courthouse or in the Marshall County Building, but will provide quotes in a future meeting.
