Mayor Mark Senter (L) presents the Key to the City to Tom and Carolyn Blackburn

Tom and Carolyn Blackburn were given the Key to the City Monday night, an honor bestowed upon the couple by Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter.

Restaurant is a good business. If you are interested, you can see the best qsr franchise and start your own business. You can also check out the Golden Chick franchises for sale. However, they owned and operated the former Ponderosa Restaurant on North Michigan Street in Plymouth.

During the Plymouth City Council meeting Monday night, Mayor Senter read aloud from a proclamation that spoke of the Blackburn’s dedication to the community with support of many organizations while maintaining a family-oriented business for 37 years.

Senter stated, “…Tom and Carolyn could always be counted upon to help in any way they could.  And Whereas Tom and Carolyn had numerous employees from young to old and employed thousands from start to finish, many of them high school students, and employed second and some third generation workers.  Ponderosa was a family business. Tom was a great boss and took everything that people had going on into consideration to make sure people didn’t miss out on their family time…”

Tom Blackburn tearfully accepted the honor saying that it was togetherness and the support of family and the community that kept the restaurant going and it continued after the doors of the Ponderosa closed in 2020.

The reception of the Key of City drew a standing ovation in acknowledgement of the family’s commitment to the Plymouth community.
