Bremen Town Council Approves Changes to Trash Ordinance

The Bremen Town Council members reviewed an amended trash ordinance last week.

The revised ordinance includes a public nuisance section which states that it shall be a public nuisance to burn any garbage, trash or any other materials in the Town of Bremen.  It will be a violation with a fine of $10.

All garbage containers that sit outside must be animal proof and not exceed 60 pounds in weight.

The last major change is that lawn or garden waste will not be accepted in receptacles for regular pickup of garbage, trash or rubbish. Lawn or garden waste should be taken to the compost pile or delivered to a place designated by the town for disposal.

If violations are found by the police chief or officer from the Bremen Police Department, the director of operations will be advised to write a letter of non-compliance to the resident with five days to remedy the violation.  If it gets to the point where the town needs to take corrective action, a $100 lien will be filed against the real estate.  The trash ordinance amendment was approved with a unanimous vote by the Bremen Town Council members.
