Plymouth City Council Considers Additional Readings on Garbage and Mowing Fees Ordinance

Plymouth City Council members looked at an ordinance amendment for garage and mowing fees Monday night.

It states that if the Street Superintendent has to remove any debris causing a nuisance at a property the fee for removal will increase to $50 in this amendment.  Any other hours spent by the superintendent or employees will be $100 per job.

The owner will need to pay for the cost of disposing petroleum products.  A flat landfill fee of $80 would be assessed for removals, and fees would be charged for tire removal.  Large quantities of waste will be assessed labor and dump fees, plus the use of equipment.  The use of any equipment shall be billed at the rates published under the most recent FEMA Schedule of Equipment Rates or similar document issued by FEMA or the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Charges would be in the form of a lien against the property if payment is not received within 15 days of a written notice.

Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt said it is a way for the city to recoup costs.  It also clarifies certain charges.

The council members adopted the ordinance on the second and third readings with a unanimous vote.
