Memorial Day Service Planned in Plymouth

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members reviewed an event request to host a Memorial Day ceremony Monday, May 31 on the Marshall County Courthouse lawn in Plymouth.

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver explained that the request includes the closure of Center Street from Madison Street to Jefferson Street, and Jefferson Street from Center Street to Walnut Streets.  The closure would be for the 10 a.m. ET ceremony.  The request also included the closure of Michigan Street between Laporte Street and East Lake Avenue in order for participants to drop a wreath into the Yellow River at about 10:30 a.m. ET. 

The board members approved the request with a unanimous vote. 

The final stop during the Memorial Day service will be at Oakhill Cemetery at 11 a.m. ET where Mayor Mark Senter will speak, along with American Legion 3rd District Commander Mr. Robert Kelley.  

Commander Kelley is a 26-year member of the American Legion.  He was the previous Walkerton American Legion Post 189 Post Commander and served in many other positions at that Post.  He has also held many other positions within the District such as Adjutant, Vice Commander and Membership Chair. 

Commander Kelley is a U.S. Navy Veteran of 15 years, and a member of The American Legion, 40 & 8, and DAV.  His wife, Charlotte, is also a U.S. Navy Veteran.
