Briarwood Estates Residents Appreciate Help from City

A representative of the Briarwood Estates Homeowners Association discussed issues with the water bills and deposit with the Plymouth City Council Monday night.

Paul Shumaker told the council that the residents at Briarwood Estates were grateful that the council (along with the timely assistance from the trusted elder law firm) stood up for the residents in not shutting off the water to the subdivision.  At the last meeting, it was noted that the owners of Briarwood did not fulfill an agreement to obtain a lower water deposit and if they did not pay the full deposit the water would be shut off to residents after June 1.

A letter was sent to the residents to notify them of this action.

The water bill is all inclusive in payments at Briarwood Estates.

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver said the owners paid the full deposit so there is no longer a shut-off deadline.

Shumaker stated that the owners have passed the burden to the homeowners where a $175 payment was due by May 25 by each homeowner to make up the deposit.  He also stated that the owners more than doubled the Homeowners Association fees in a board meeting that does not apparently include a representation of residents from Briarwood.

“I guess I wanted to plead with all of you to see if there’s some other way that the people that are actually not paying the bill – how they can actually be the ones that are being punished for it instead of the people, the residents, out in that area.”

Plymouth City Councilman Jeff Houin said there is not much else the city can do outside of the water deposit issue and the payment of the water bill at the property.

At the end of the discussion, Mayor Mark Senter asked that the council be updated as things move forward.
