Bourbon Town Council Considers Contribution to Marshall County Council on Aging

The Bourbon Town Council members considered a contribution to the Marshall County Council on Aging when they met last week.

Mark Cottrill from the organization appeared before the council to ask for a contribution similar to what the town has given in the past.

“I’d like to see if you guys would consider kind of catching up,” stated Cottrill.  “In the past, Bourbon has given $3,000 one year and $2,000 another year.  This last year, as Kim [Berger, Clerk-Treasurer] said, it just didn’t get put into the budget.”

Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger clarified that there was not a request for the funds in 2020.

Many municipal leaders in the county contribute funds each year to help provide the transportation for their residents.

Cottrill added that 700 trips were made to Bourbon in 2019.  The number of trips to Bourbon in 2020 dropped due to the pandemic.  The organization recorded 400 trips to Bourbon in 2020.  In 2021, 300 trips have been made to Bourbon where residents have taken advantage of free transportation to get a COVID-19 vaccine and many other offers through the Marshall County Council on Aging.

In the end, the Bourbon Town Council members tabled the request so they can look into the town’s American Rescue Act funding that allows the town to give to organizations that experienced funding losses due to COVID-19.  A decision could be made during the council’s June meeting.
