Warsaw Man Sentenced in Marshall County Superior Court 1 on Burglary, Intimidation Charges

A Warsaw man will spend the next 12 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections following a sentencing hearing in Marshall Superior Court 1 last week.

Terry Sabo, 34, pleaded guilty to a Level 3 Felony charge of burglary and two counts of intimidation as a Level 5 Felony.  The charges stemmed from an incident in Bourbon in September 2019 when Sabo broke into a home armed with a knife late at night, according to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.  Court documents indicate when Sabo could not get through two doors of the home after trying to kick in one of them, he threw a chair through a living room window.  Quick action by the victim to call for help allowed the Bourbon Police Department to quickly respond where Officer Matt Geiger took Sabo into custody.  The victim sustained an arm injury.

Marshall County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tami Napier and Defense Attorney Chris Berdahl presented arguments to Judge Robert O. Bowen, who was to determine a sentence for Sabo.  The victim testified during the sentencing hearing and all aggravating and mitigating factors were weighed by Judge Bowen.

Bowen ultimately sentenced Sabo to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections on the burglary charge and four years on both counts of intimidation.  The sentences will be served concurrently, or at the same time.

Napier said, “The victim was pleased that Sabo accepted responsibility for his actions as well as with the sentence imposed by Judge Bowen.  Closing this case has given the victims much-needed peace of mind.  Sabo will be in prison for his crime and Marshall County is safer because of it.  Home invasions like this are something I take very seriously as your sense of safety in your own home should never be violated.”
