The Culver Town Park will be a busy place this summer as some projects are anticipated to get underway this year.
The beach sidewalk project is underway. Park Superintendent Amber Cowell told the Culver Town Council members last week that an existing sidewalk has gotten to be a hazard so it was decided to remove the sidewalk and replace it, along with the installation of a new drainage system. Cowell predicts the construction will be ongoing for three weeks.
More work on the Culver Beach Lodge will be done soon as a donor stepped up to fund more flooring in the fireplace room behind the concession and lobby area. The funds will also update four more doors with a lock system. Cowell said her goal for that area is to turn it into a youth social space with tabletop games.
Finally, Cowell said the Park Department is working with the Culver Visitor’s Center to apply for AARP’s Community Challenge grant in the amount of $35,000. The grant funds are anticipated to cover the cost of a new basketball court surface at the park with line boundaries for basketball, pickleball, shuffleboard, and hopscotch. A bike pump and repair station, as well as bike racks would also be covered under the grant. Funds from the Alex Pare Memorial would go toward new basketball hoops, benches, and a memorial planter.
