Plymouth Man Arrested after Allegedly Driving 130 Miles Per Hour on State Road 2

Driving more than 130 miles per hour on State Road 2 while under the influence of alcohol is what police say got a Plymouth man arrested Sunday morning. A LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office captain says it started just after 4:00 a.m. CDT on U.S. 20 near LaPorte County Road 450 East.

Police say a vehicle was going eastbound at 105 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. But it reportedly sped up as it continued east onto State Road 2, exceeding 130 miles per hour when it got into St. Joseph County. Officers were able to pull it over shortly after it merged onto the eastbound U.S. 20 bypass ramp, and the driver was given a field sobriety test.

Denver W. Schweizer, 25, faces two potential misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated and one of reckless driving. He was also given two speeding citations.

LaPorte County Police say that drunk driving and speeding are a deadly combination, and they’ll have zero tolerance for those who operate a vehicle while intoxicated.
