Marshall County Council Approves New Fund for Parks and Recreation Department

The members of the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board will have a fund to deposit donations thanks to action by the Marshall County Council Monday morning.

The department was developed in 2020 without a budget.  With projects beginning with potential donations and grant dollars coming in soon, the board members approved the creation of a fund within the Marshall County budget to deposit those funds at their meeting last week.

Marshall County Parks and Recreation Department Board Secretary Deb VanDeMark told the council members that the board has its first deposit.

“We did have a donation from the West Township Trustee of $350,” said VanDeMark.  “We have been looking at the historical West Township Trustee cabin that sits across from where the school was on State Road 17.  The West Township Board voted to donate $350 to the Park Department to have it assessed to see what it would cost to restore that building.”

VanDeMark added that the board members are working with the new owner of the old West Township School in obtaining a parcel to move the old trustee cabin from its current location across the highway to that area.

The council members approved the new fund with a unanimous vote.
