The Marshall County Commissioners reviewed demolition proposals Monday morning for the building at 211 W. Jefferson Street.
The commissioners purchased the property in 2020 with the intention of razing the existing structures to pave the way for additional parking across from the Marshall County Courthouse. With the fourth court to open in July, the commissioners anticipate additional visitors at the courthouse. This will satisfy an overdue need of additional parking around the courthouse.
Once the structures are initially removed, the space will be used to stage equipment for the upcoming Marshall County Courthouse and clock tower renovation project.
Four companies provided proposals including Langfeldt Excavating, LLC with a price of $18,270, Jerry Reed’s Excavating with a proposal of $18,500, and Jackson Demolition Services and Chain of Lakes proposals in the amount of $35,000 each.
Proposals include the demolition of the structure, known as the Doug Hite Law Office, and a garage on the property. Debris would be hauled from the site. The utilities have already been shut off to the building.
The commissioners unanimously approved the lowest proposal from Langfeldt Excavating, LLC in the amount of $18,270. The project could start May 1.
