The second phase of the Lake Max Trail will undergo a redesign phase following a closer look at the project.
The second phase of the Lake Max Trail includes a one-mile extension of the trail from the Culver Park to Washington Street, Plymouth Street and South Main Street.
The Troyer Group will be redesigning the portion of the trail that goes down Plymouth Street at it impacts several homeowners along the route in various ways.
Council President Ginny Bess Munroe explained explained during Tuesday night’s council meeting that she rode the trail with Utility Superintendent Bob Porter and spoke with affected homeowners and it was found that the width of the trail would need to be adjusted in some areas which adjusts the engineering part of that project.
Several residents spoke out during the meeting about the project with concerns about parking at their residences, the effect the trail would have on the aesthetics of their yards and the loss of yard space, where the trail would be placed on the property, and not being notified of the trail plans ahead of this point in the process.
Munroe commented that several public hearings and public engagements were held in the planning phases of the project and the town followed the proper right-of-way process.
Munroe also assured that when the engineering redesign is available an effort would be made to notify all property owners on Plymouth Street of the changes.
After a lengthy discussion, a draft contract from The Troyer Group was approved by the Culver Town Council members that will allow the company to redesign the trail in an amount not to exceed $9,000.
