Bremen Town Council Reviews Water, Sewer Rate Ordinances

Water and sewer rates will increase in Bremen if an ordinance regulating those increases is approved by the Bremen Town Council.

Two ordinance were presented to the town council members Monday night where water bills and sewer bills will increase July 1, 2021 and again July 1, 2022 to make up a slight shortfall where revenues are concerned.

An average residential customer is billed for a minimum of 3,000 gallons of water on the monthly bill.  That will increase to $14.70 this year and increase to $16.30 in 2022.  Hydrant fees will increase to $5.15 in 2021 and to $5.70 in 2022.  Charges for sprinkler systems in commercial buildings will also increase.

An added after hour service charge will be added to bills for non-emergency calls.  After hour calls during the week and on Saturday will be $70.00 minimum for the first two hours and then $35 for each additional hour.  It will be 90.00 on Sundays for the first two hours and then $45 for each additional hour.

For the sewer portion, bills will increase to $7.90 in 2021 and $9.05 in 2022 for a typical residential user.  The same after hour pay schedule will be observed if the ordinance is adopted.

The Bremen Town Council approved the first reading of each ordinance Monday night.  A public hearing on these ordinances is scheduled for May 10.
