Bremen Town Council Members Clarify Decision on Chickens in Town Limits

The Bremen Town Council members will not act on a request to change the current animal ordinance to allow chickens within the town limits of Bremen.

During their meeting last week, the council members voiced opposition to the request, saying that it is not in the best interest of the town.

As previously reported, several residents already have a few chickens on properties in town which are currently not allowed under the town’s current animal ordinance.  Those homeowners have been to several Bremen Town Council meetings to sway the council members in changing the ordinance, saying chickens make good pets and they serve as an educational purpose for children.  They could also produce a source of food for owners.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy previously stated that he is not in favor of allowing chickens inside town limits and Police Chief Brad Kile has commented the same.  Some council members have found people who are not in favor of the change.
