South Bend Man Arrested after Allegedly Driving a Stolen Vehicle without a License

Driving a stolen vehicle without a license while in possession of marijuana is what Marshall County Police say led to the arrest of a South Bend man Saturday. Sheriff’s deputies say they saw a 2000 Toyota Camry with an equipment violation heading north on U.S. 31 near 19th Road around 1:15 a.m.

Officers say the vehicle had been reported stolen the day before in St. Joseph County. Police tried to pull it over but the driver allegedly continued north for over a mile before stopping.

Joshua Lee Smith, 21, is accused of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license. Officers say he also had an active felony warrant through St. Joseph County.
