The Marshall County Council members approved a grant application Monday morning for the third opportunity to apply for COVID-19 response funds.
The third phase is more competitive as more entities have sent in requests for funds.
Ginny Munroe explained that Marshall County would submit a $250,000 grant application where $58,000 would be used to complete funding for a micro-loan program that was supported by funds from the second round of grants, while the rest would be used to support local food pantries.
Munroe presented sub-recipient agreements to the council as the United Way will be managing the funding dollars for the food pantries while Marshall County Economic Development Corporation will handle funding dollars for the micro-loan program. The agreements were also presented to the commissioners. They would not need to be signed unless the county is awarded the grant.
United Way offered a $50,000 match toward the grant which would be used to benefit food pantries in the county.
The Marshall County Commissioners approved a similar grant application request during their meeting in February. The council members approved the application Monday morning. The application was submitted by the March 11 deadline.
