The Marshall County Commissioners looked at a Marshall County Highway Department policy Monday that outlines the procedure of damaged mailboxes during an event when snow plows are dispatched to clear roads.
The established policy of the Highway Department is if a Marshall County Highway Department plow blade hits the mailbox and causes damage it will be the department’s responsibility to replace it. If the force of the snow damages the mailbox, it will be the homeowner’s responsibility.
Highway Superintendent Jason Peters wanted the commissioners to review the policy so if there are questions everyone has a copy of the policy and everyone agrees with the procedure. .
Each complaint will be investigated on a case-by-case basis and a determination will be made after review.
The commissioners voted to accept the policy as it was presented.
