Plymouth City Ordinance Requires Clearing of Snow off Sidewalks

Plymouth residents and business owners are reminded that a city ordinance exists that requires the clearing of snow off of sidewalks.

The ordinance states, “It shall be the duty of every owner, lessee or occupant of any premises abutting or bordering upon any street in the city to remove, all snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of such premises to the full paved width of the sidewalk within 24 hours after the snow or ice has fallen or accumulated.”

It goes on to say that if there is failure to remove snow and ice from sidewalks within the specified time frame, the city will remove the snow and ice and place the cost of clean up as a tax lien on the property.

Mayor Mark Senter asks everyone to be mindful of people who use sidewalks as a method of foot transportation including students walking to school and mail carriers delivering mail.
