John Glenn School Board Holds Public Hearing over Superintendent’s Contract

The John Glenn School Board opened up a public hearing Tuesday night to take comments on the superintendent’s proposed contract.

Superintendent Christopher Winchell commented that the three-year contract remains unchanged for the most part.  There was an addition of $700 to the base of the contract and a one-time $500 stipend which is in line with what the administrators received in COVID-19 appreciation money.  A stipend was also given to the teachers.  There was an additional $200 board donation to HSA and a term in the health insurance.

The board also covers the cost of long term disability, term life insurance, the contribution to the Indiana State Teacher’s Retirement Fund, tax-sheltered annuity, and mileage.

The superintendent gets 15 days of paid time off, 11 sick days, and five days of continuing education.

The basic salary of the superintendent is $118,700.

The entire proposed contract can be found on the John Glenn School Corporation’s website.  It would take effect July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024.

John Glenn School Board member Christian Mattix commented that Winchell continues to move the corporation forward with innovative projects and the raise to the base and the one-time stipend are well deserved, especially when leading the school corporation through a health pandemic.

No other public comment was provided.

The public hearing was closed.  The school board members are anticipated to act on the superintendent’s contact at their next meeting on February 16.
