Dangerous and Impaired Driving Patrols Begin Friday

Police agencies throughout the state will be participating in dangerous and impaired driving patrols beginning Friday, February 26 through Sunday, March 21.

Officers will show zero tolerance for those driving aggressively, over the speed limit, or under the influence.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials say that fewer drivers were on the road last year because of the pandemic, but more road users were speeding or driving under the influence and that fewer motorists wore seat belts.  Additionally, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute researchers revealed 2020 was the third highest year for traffic fatalities in the past 10 years.

Safety is the key during St. Patrick’s Day parties and the NCAA basketball tournaments.  Officers encourage drivers to slow down and follow all posted speed limits, avoid tailgating or driving aggressively, wear a seat belt, call a friend to drive if you have consumed alcoholic drinks, and take the keys from a friend who has been drinking.
