Culver residents and business owners will see an increase in the storm sewer rates if an amended storm sewer rate ordinance passes on all three readings.
The ordinance adjusting those rates was presented to the council members last week after a rate study was done by Baker Tilly officials. Rates need to be adjusted to cover costs for maintenance, repair and projects.
The incremental increases will be phased-in over the next two years. If adopted, for residential real estate, the monthly storm water utility fee shall be a flat residential customer charge of $2.50 per residential unit in Phase 1, $3.00 in Phase 2, and $3.50 in Phase 3.
The monthly storm water utility fee for non-residential/commercial real estate shall be a flat non-residential/commercial customer charge of $5.00 in Phase 1, $6.00 in Phase 2, and $6.95 in Phase 3.
Residents owning condos, hotels, motels and condotels, the monthly storm water utility fee shall be a flat customer charge of $10.00 in Phase 1, $12.00 in Phase 2, and $13.90 in Phase 3.
Phase 1 would take effect July 1, 2021, Phase 2 would take effect January 1, 2022, and Phase 3 would take effect January 1, 2023.
The Culver Town Council voted 4-1 to approve the first reading of the amended ordinance. Councilman Bill Cleavenger opposed the motion. A public hearing on the matter will be held Tuesday, February 9 with the second reading of the ordinance to be considered during that meeting.
