Bourbon Town Council Matches Funding for Downtown Project

Residents of the Town of Bourbon will see an addition to the downtown area this year with the planned installation of benches.

Susie Schaetzle told the Bourbon Town Council members last week that a grant worth $800 was awarded to the downtown organization from the Marshall County Community Foundation last year, but with the reorganization of the downtown group, the money was not claimed last year.  She explained officials with the Marshall County Community Foundation suggested that the town buy the benches up front and then the money would be reimbursed with the grant funds.

Schaetzle commented that $800 might get two or three benches and they will be purchased locally to help support the Bourbon economy.  They will be placed at the corner of Main and Center Streets.

Bourbon Town Councilman Les McFarland asked Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger if the town could gather funds from a line item in the budget to match that $800 to purchase more benches for the area.  Berger said a Downtown line item in the budget has $3,000 which could be used toward the match.

The council members unanimously approved a motion to match the $800 grant to purchase more benches for the downtown area.
