The REES Theatre in downtown Plymouth will have more exterior work done next week with the addition of a LED message board.
Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi updated the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members Tuesday night on the progress of that project. The sign was purchased out of pool of money from a Community Development Block grant. Other funds from the grant will go toward the purchase and installation of LED message boards in all of the communities in Marshall County.
Surrisi said the LED message board at the REES Theatre will be installed to replace the building’s current marquee.
“We’re told that the REES Theatre is going to be the first sign that will be installed because it already has the structure that holds the sign there for the marquee and all of the other ones are going to be stand-alone signs out along roadways” said Surrisi. “They’re going to have it set up so it will still have that traditional look and look like you put individual letters on there. So, you really won’t notice too much of a difference most of the time.”
The REES Theatre committee spent an additional $15,000 on the project to get a second sign to fit both sides of the marquee. The grant only covered a one-sided sign.
Additionally, Surrisi said the next phase of the interior work of the REES Theatre is moving along. Construction documents are being completed to soon be distributed to contractors. Officials hope to award bids for the project in the spring.
