Marshall County Judges Order Inmate COVID-19 Testing before Placement with Community Corrections

The three judges in Marshall County signed an order Monday that aims at protecting Marshall County Community Corrections employees.

The order states that inmates in the Marshall County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19 and the state placed Marshall County as a red status that represents a very high community spread of COVID-19.  The judges believe that inmates released to the care of Marshall County Community Corrections impose a significant health risk to Community Corrections employees.

Circuit Court Judge Curtis D. Palmer and Superior Court Judges Robert O. Bowen and Dean Colvin ordered that any person incarcerated at the jail to be released to Community Corrections must test negative for COVID-19 prior to his/her release from the Marshall County Jail.

The order remains in effect until further notice.  It was filed with the Marshall County Clerk’s Office Monday morning.

Marshall County Health Department officials said Saturday that 122 people in the jail tested positive with COVID-19.  They worked with the state’s Strike Team to test inmates in the Marshall County Correctional Facility after several of the inmates showed symptoms of the virus.
