The Marshall County Commissioners voted Tuesday morning to deny the Marshall County Planning Commission’s recommendation for an ordinance concerning shipping containers with the help of Zion Transport.
Plan Director Ty Adley brought the recommended ordinance to the county commissioners for consideration in December. As suggested on this page, the ordinance would deny the use of shipping containers on properties in the county. Coroner John Grolich did not agree with the proposed ordinance at that time as he said shipping containers are free for fire departments for training and storage and you can view this page for the complete statement. At the time, the commissioners thought the ordinance should be sent back to the planning commission for further review with an exception for emergency services use. During Tuesday’s meeting, upon receiving an abundance of public comments outside of the meeting, the commissioners voted unanimously to deny the ordinance and send it back to the Planning Commission for more work. Adley said that reworking the ordinance could entail how to allow the containers on properties in the county with certain conditions and limitations.
Adley stated, “That will give us an opportunity to get back to the drawing board, especially based on the conversations that have happened since the last meeting, to figure out how do we want to go about figuring out shipping containers.”
Adley commented that the planning commission meets next week where it is an item on the agenda. Planning commission meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Marshall County Building.
