Culver Community School Superintendent to Retain CRC Seat

Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman will keep her seat on the Culver Redevelopment Commission.

The Culver Community School Corporation has representation on the Culver Redevelopment Commission as a non-voting member. Shuman said there is legislation in the works that could make the school board representative a voting member, but it has not gone anywhere yet. However, she believes the representation is important.

“I have a voice and I do believe our Redevelopment Commission listens and wants to be highly engaged in school corporation projects and stuff we have going on,” stated Shuman.

She added that the CRC has supported technology and safety needs at the school corporation.

“Technically, 15 percent, or so, of the revenue generated in the TIF Districts should be thought of for school corporations.  They don’t have to, but there’s that guideline out there from the State.”

The school board unanimously voted to keep Shuman as the school’s representative.  The appointment will be reviewed by the Culver Town Council.
