Argos Town Council Adopts Fees and Penalties Ordinance

The Argos Town Council members adopted the fees and penalties ordinance during their meeting last week.  They voted to suspend the rules and adopt it on all three readings.

The ordinance amends an appendix to Chapter 36 in the Argos Town Code.

There will be a $30 parking fee if it is done outside a marked space, in a prohibited area, on a narrow street, or in an alley, park or private property.  The same penalty will be imposed if there is parking in excess of permitted time, parking at an improper time, or parking adjacent to the school.

A $50 penalty will be imposed if trash receptacles are left at the curb, if the owner has prohibited animals, failure to register a dog, animal waste clean up annoying the public, noxious odors or smoke, open wells, address display, sidewalk obstruction, violation of park hours, failure to obtain an entertainment license, non-registration of a golf cart or noncompliance of golf cart requirements, or a curfew violation.

A $75 penalty will be issued for dogs disturbing or annoying the public, abandoning animals, and animals running at large.  The same penalty applies for excessive noise with fireworks.  Any subsequent offenses will be $100.  If there is a fireworks offense, the penalty may go up to $200 for three or more violations.  A $75 penalty will also be issued for dangerous trees or shrubs over public ways, and abandoned or junk vehicles.

A $100 penalty will be issued for unpermitted usage of town water, water meter tampering, open container possession, storage of explosives, the consumption of alcohol in the town park, excessive weeds, and other ordinance violations that are not specifically identified in this particular ordinance.

A $150 penalty will be imposed for the accumulation of rubbish.

A $200 penalty will be issued for speeding.
